Deer Creek Valley Ranch is the Denver mountain's newest wedding and event venue .
Inspired by their own amazing "Love Story", the owners - Tim and Christian - have offered their Ranch as an intimate and elegant country setting for weddings, receptions, reunions, corporate events, and basically any excuse to spend fun time with good friends.
The Historic Barn, originally built in 1865, has been completely restored to give your guests a true Colorado experience. Great care was given to every detail right down to the bar stools made from horse saddles.
Outdoor ceremony and event sites include the lake-side Gazebo and the Meadow at the Covered Bridge with gorgeous views of Mount Evans.
Conveniently located approximately 45 minutes from the DTC.
Tours are welcome by appointment only.

As you wind along Highway 285, you see hills and valleys rising and receding around you. The beautifully forested landscape varies from densely packed pines to rolling pastures dotted with Angus or wild elk. You think to yourself: this is truly God's country.
Then, just as you pass from Pine into Bailey, Deer Creek Valley Ranch presents itself to you. Once you've seen it, you'll never forget it! The white covered entry way announces the name: Deer Creek Valley Ranch. The Historic Barn personifies the Old West as it is nestled against a dramatic rock outcropping that is crowned with majestic pines. If you look closely you can even see an old water-cistern, hand-built into the rock, that once serviced the original residence on the property. With Mount Evans as the centerpiece of the backdrop, the picturesque valley that Deer Creek created seems to emanate straight from Mount Evans itself.
The First to Love This Land
This is the real deal, with a colorful history as a working Ranch. Originally homesteaded by George S. Parmalee (oldest son of John Parmalee, for whom Parmalee Gulch is named), he built the massive original barn in 1865. Crafted with hand-hewn timbers and wooden pegs, it stood over three stories tall on a stone foundation.
Creative Beginnings
What is now a quaint renovated cottage next to the barn was once the stage coach stop between Denver and Fairplay. Since it was a natural stopping place on the wagon road, George capitalized on this by applying for a post office there in 1870.
The old stage road passed between the barn and the original house, which was torn down in the 1920s. In 1927, the original ranch house burned and was replaced by one built just west of the barn. The original location lies in what is now the US Highway 285 right-of-way. According to Harold Warren's Bits and Pieces of History along the 285 Corridor, most of the original chimney is now buried in highway fill.
Horn Cemetary's First Resident
Warren's book also includes a colorful account of how the Horn Cemetery came to be situated in such close proximity to the Ranch. It seems that there was a shootout at the stage coach stop and one of the participants was mortally wounded. He managed to stagger only a short distance before he dropped and died and of course they buried him on the spot.
FIRE!!!
Faulty wiring is believed to have caused a fire that destroyed the 124-year-old Deer Creek Valley Ranch barn (Fairplay Flume, May 13, 1989). Platte Canyon firefighter John Woodward reported smoke in the afternoon, but the barn was fully involved before firefighters arrived. Dousing the fire required over 50,000 gallons of water over several days due to smoldering hay and manure inside. Fortunately, no livestock were inside. John Keel, who had purchased the Ranch four years prior, called the financial loss incidental, but the historical loss significant; and vowed to rebuild to restore the charm of the valley.
Restoration
It took a while, but in 1997, Keel discovered a barn in Parker that was to be destroyed to make way for Highway E-470. Its roof and top floor were an almost perfect fit! In short order, the Parker barns roof and upper story were sliced into two sections lengthwise, transported and placed in position by a crane on the restored lower portion of the historic barn. After adding new shingles and a fresh coat of paint the barn became what we see today, a testament to fortitude and persistence commemorating Colorados territorial history. At this point, the Ranch was used mostly as an occasional vacation home for the Keel family.
I'll Take It!
Then, in 2004, the 165-acre Deer Creek Valley Ranch was purchased by Tim Marasciullo. Ever since he was a youth, Tim would drive past the Ranch and think to himself "One of these days, I'm going to own that Ranch," and one day his dream came true. Noting that the Ranch had come up for sale, Tim contacted the realtor and was told "The place is already due to close escrow in three days, but I'll show you some other nice Ranches instead." As they drove around, the realtor received a phone call: the Ranch had fallen unexpectedly out of escrow! Tim immediately said "I'll take it!" Practically sight-unseen, a contract was drawn up. Only then did Tim get to see the rest of the property, which included a furnished 4,000sf ranch-house built in the late 1940s, with an in-ground swimming pool and all recently renovated. What a bonus! And what timing, there were three back-up offers by the end of the day. At the time, little did Tim know the love and family experiences that were yet to unfold here at the Ranch. And little do we know what fabulous memories are yet to be experienced by you here as well. The rest, as they say, is history.
Note: Information and some text gleaned from various articles in the Park County Republican and the Fairplay Flume.
During construction of the beautiful Covered Bridge that stretches over Deer Creek, herds of wild Elk would come to inspect the progress. Apparently they approved, as they would then bed down for the night in the field surrounding the Bridge ceremony viewing area. The American Indians held the Elk, or “Wapiti”, in high esteem for their intuition. Thus, the Bridge is known as “Wapiti Blessing.” The Bridge is located deep in the valley, where Deer Creek itself winds in a unique “S” turn under the Bridge and around the Ceremony Viewing area. From the "meadow" ceremony area, the Covered Bridge and Mount Evans are majestically framed in the background. What better way to enjoy your elegant country “I Do’s” than at this beautiful rustic wedding location. The open fields offer endless opportunities for corporate events as well. Capacity up to 180 guests.
You will be instantly captivated by the lively hummingbirds, or “Walela” in Native American, that call this Gazebo home. Perched on the shore of this heart-shaped lake, the fanciful white Gazebo and it’s large viewing Deck are a stunning ceremony site for a fairy-tale Gazebo wedding. Make a grand entrance as you walk down the dramatic boardwalk, and past your guests to your waiting groom! Enjoy beautiful veiws of the valley as pine-covered hills rise up on either side of you. “Walela’s Allure” is the perfect setting for your special moment. The Deck and surrounding pasture are a perfect setting for company picnics, corporate retreats, scavenger hunts, and team-building activities as well. Capacity up to 180 guests.
The American Indians revered the wolf, and because wolves, or “Mai-coh”, mate for life, the Indians used them to represent loyalty and eternal connection. The main floor of this Historic Barn Dance Hall will offer over 2,400 sf indoors – and an expansive 700 sf deck outdoors – to celebrate your joyous occasion. Whether it is your wedding reception, birthday party, family reunion, dinner rehearsal, or corporate meeting, have a blast and dance the night away. This Barn, originally built in 1865, has been fully restored and expanded to include a caterer’s preparation area, restrooms, and a beautifully appointed Bridal Suite. "Saddle up" to the Western saloon-style bar, with barstools made from repurposed horse-saddles. Barn interior capacity up to 180 guests. Barn deck capacity an additional 50 guests.
The Historic Barn at Deer Creek Valley Ranch has been completely renovated, with the upper Hay Loft detailed specifically as an intimate setting for smaller groups. Red-tail hawk, or “Tawadi” in Native American, often sit at the apex of the barn roof and survey the surrounding beauty of nature, and the goings-on down below. The Loft is a perfect place for additional reception seating, non-traditional reception fun (such as a themed lounge area or photo booth), and for corporate break-out sessions. If used as a Barn ceremony site, all eyes will be on you from the moment your guests first see you at the top of the custom staircase. You will walk toward your groom as you are bathed in soft light filtering through the oversized windows. Capacity up to 60 guests.

The owner of Deer Creek Valley Ranch, Tim Marasciullo, unexpectedly met the love of his life on a trip to Hawaii in 2006. After a whirlwind romance (he and Christian were engaged just 14 days after meeting), Tim whisked his bride-to-be from the balmy shores of Hawaii to the rugged beauty of the Ranch. Upon arrival at the Ranch, Tim felt it necessary to re-propose to Christian with an appropriate ring. He took her to the highest point on the Ranch, overlooking the creek and the valley below and asked her again to share with him the rest of his life. Amazingly, the entire proposal was witnessed by a 4 x 4 buck deer, standing no more than 20 feet away. The buck seemed to give his approval as he looked on, posed for photos, then he nodded and casually walked away.
As they say: "When you know, YOU KNOW!" Tim and Christian were married six months later. In their first year together, they traveled through 19 different States and 12 different Countries. What began as a whirlwind romance has remained an illustrious Love Story, the stuff of Hollywood storytelling. Since the arrival of their two small children, they have happily settled into daily life at the Ranch.
Inspired by their own Love Story, they have decided to present Deer Creek Valley Ranch as a premier destination for you to enjoy as well. In their quest to restore the Ranch to the glory it deserves, they began by dismantling the old bridge and replacing it with the covered bridge you see today. Then they opted to share the quaint heart-shaped lake by building a deck and gazebo on its shore. Now with the main and upper floors of the Historic Barn fully renovated, the Ranch is available for you to share the ultimate expression of your own Love Story.
